Electric field dependence of complex-dominated ultracold molecular collisions

چکیده
Recent experiments on ultracold non-reactive dipolar molecules have observed high two-body losses, even though these can undergo neither inelastic, nor reactive (as they are in their absolute ground state), light-assisted collisions (if measured the dark). In presence of an electric field losses seem to be near universal (the probability loss at short-range is unity) while absence it non-universal. To explain observations we propose a simple model based mixing effect states two diatomic long-range and density-of-states tetramer complex formed short-range, believed responsible for losses. We apply our ground-state endothermic systems, current experimental interest.

Ultracold molecular collisions in combined electric and magnetic fields
We consider collisions of electric and magnetic polar molecules, taking the OH radical as an example, subject to combined electric and magnetic static fields. We show that the relative orientation of the fields has an important effect on the collision processes for different fields’ magnitudes at different collision energies. This is due to the way the molecules polarize in the combined electri...
متن کاملControlling collisions of ultracold atoms with dc electric fields.
It is demonstrated that elastic collisions of ultracold atoms forming a heteronuclear collision complex can be manipulated by laboratory practicable dc electric fields. The mechanism of electric field control is based on the interaction of the instantaneous dipole moment of the collision pair with external electric fields. It is shown that this interaction is dramatically enhanced in the presen...
متن کاملRotational Feshbach resonances in ultracold molecular collisions.
In collisions at ultralow temperatures, molecules will possess Feshbach resonances, foreign to ultracold atoms, whose virtual excited states consist of rotations of the molecules. We estimate the mean spacing and mean widths of these resonant states, exploiting the fact the molecular collisions at low energy display chaotic motion. As examples, we consider the experimentally relevant molecules ...
متن کاملMagnetic field dependence of ultracold inelastic collisions near a feshbach resonance
Inelastic collision rates for ultracold 85Rb atoms in the F = 2, m(f) = -2 state have been measured as a function of magnetic field. At 250 gauss (G), the two- and three-body loss rates were measured to be K2 = (1.87+/-0.95+/-0.19)x10(-14) cm(3)/s and K3 = (4.24(+0. 70)(-0.29)+/-0.85)x10(-25) cm(6)/s, respectively. As the magnetic field is decreased from 250 G towards a Feshbach resonance at 15...
